Last week The Greenery
signed an agreement with the Italy-based Sant Orsola for the
exclusive production and testing of raspberry breeds for the Dutch
market.
The Greenery and Sant Orsola signed an agreement in Pergine,
Italy, for the testing and sale of new raspberry breeds. The
agreement gives The Greenery yearly exclusive access to several
highly promising varieties of raspberries cultivated by Sant
Orsola's breeding programme. Also included in the agreement is a
licence agreement under which Sant Orsola will give The Greenery
exclusive production rights for the Netherlands and worldwide
rights of sale.

Greenery's Sourcing Director Jelte van Kammen and Silvio Bertoldi,
Chair of the Sant Orsola cooperative, sign the agreement.
The new breeds, which have been
selected on the basis of flavour, size of the fruit, shelf life and
production, will be tested by The Greenery's growers over the next
few years. Tying in with The Greenery's aim to expand its soft
fruit category with exceptionally flavourful varieties that are
suitable for selling via both retail and trade channels, the
agreement with Sant Orsola follows on previous agreements
contracted with international agriculturalists, including the
American Plant Sciences Inc. and Scottish Angus Soft Fruit.
Sant Orsola is an Italian
cooperative of approximately 1,000 soft and hard fruit growers. The
cooperative is established in Pergine (Trento) and runs production
areas in southern Italy. Sant Orsola is Italy's market leader for
soft fruit, where its products are sold under its own Sant Orsola
label.
