Crop protection

All plants suffer from external intruders that stunt growth and damage health, such as weeds, fungi and insects. Growers use crop protection products to keep their crops in the healthiest possible condition. Wherever possible, The Greenery's growers opt to use natural crop protection products. The Greenery assists them by providing advice, supervision and monitoring services.

The Greenery policy

  • A preference for natural crop protection methods
  • Minimal use of chemical agents
  • Additional checks to identify any chemical residues and microbial contaminations

A preference for natural crop protection methods

The use of natural crop protection methods helps avoid the risks associated with chemical agents. An increasing number of chemical crop protection products can now be replaced by sustainable natural alternatives. Our specialists keep close track of the latest developments in the field. The Greenery supports research on alternatives for chemical crop protection products.

Use of chemical crop protection products unavoidable

If it were not for the use of chemical crop protection methods, 30% to 40% of all crops would currently be lost. As a result, these products will continue to play a key role in agriculture. Government agencies regulate their use in order to protect people and the environment. Across the board, Europe currently applies the most stringent guidelines in this area. A growing number of supermarket chains now applies standards above the statutory minimum. The Greenery is capable of meeting these more stringent requirements.

Checks by The Greenery

Naturally, The Greenery adheres to all relevant guidelines. The Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (Voedsel en Waren Autoriteit, VWA) monitors guideline compliance. In order to further minimise risks, we conduct large-scale checks.
